ANIKULAPO (2022) -Aníkúlápó

The movie revolves around a cloth weaver and chick-magnet, Saro (Kunle Remi). We first meet him when he comes to Oyo Ile for the first time, hoping to find work prospects. Instead he finds warmth in the experienced loins of an older woman (played by Sola Sobowale, surprisingly and gratefully sans hysteria). A series of events lead Saro to the king’s palace, where he is at once taken by Queen Arolake’s (Bimbo Ademoye) beauty. She is the king’s dissatisfied last and youngest wife who feels out of place in the palace. Soon she and Saro begin a forbidden romance. As with such romances, one can tell that it will end badly for one or both of the characters.

PONZI (2021)

the story of a rich politician, Chief Olaoba (Jide Kosoko) who recently found his long lost American son, Robert (Mawuli Gavor). Somewhere in the movie, Chubby, the habitual debtor, is subjected to public harassment and torture for not paying his debt. It is during this exact scenario that Robert steps in and plays the role of a messiah by paying Chubby’s debt and even splashes a few wads of cash to pay for people’s food. This scene is pivotal to the understanding of the Ponzi concept because by doing this, Robert is seen as a saviour and is able to earn their trust. Perhaps, the saying “an apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” even comes to mind— since he is the son of a former politician who embezzled public funds while in office.

STILL FALLING (2021)

Still Falling is the story of Bono (Sharon Ooja) and Lagi (Daniel Etim Effiong). Two ex-university lovers who meet seven years later and have to deal with the demons they left behind when last they saw. In his uni days, Lagi was an a physically, emotionally and psychologically abusive boyfriend to a meek and compliant Bono. Seven years later, much has changed. Lagi has dedicated his life to Christ and Bono has dedicated her life away from Christ. They meet in a flight that Lagi is piloting for Bono and immediately afterwards we see Lagi claiming that she is his soulmate. And thus begins a movie where things just proceed to happen without making any sense.
